You read that headline right. A 13 year old child is now tackling Mt. Everest. His name is Jordan Romero, he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Kenya aged 10 and wants to be the youngest person to climb the highest mountains on seven continents. But he won’t be going alone, his father and step-mother have accompanied him on every climb – and will be by his side on this one too.
“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do before I die – I just happen to be doing it at this age. I happen to be going for a world record. But I just want to climb it.”
Editor’s note on that quote: “Before I die” – yes he is 13 years old and already thinking about dying. And he might just die while trying to climb it. At 29,028 feet above sea level, Everest has claimed the lives of over 180 people. The youngest person to ever climb it was a 16 year old (Nepali Temba Tsheri) – who lives in the mountains and are freaks of nature. I wish him the best on his trek, but if you ever watched the show Everest or have seen specials on it, you know how crazy it is up there – unlike anything in the world. Best of luck Jordan.
