Vote Basil Marceaux for New Internet Meme!

29 Jul

In the great state of Tennessee, we have a race starting: Enter Basil Marceaux, a candidate for the Republican nomination in Tennessee’s gubernatorial race. He might not win the race, but he has sure guaranteed himself into the internet hall of fame – - forever. You can check out his site and platforms on his site here.

He was even featured on last night’s Colbert Report episode! It actually kind of scares me, because this could start as a “joke vote” and then end up making this election close. So everyone have a nice day, and uh – have a nice day.

Thanks to Amin for the tip.

New Thor Trailer!

29 Jul

Finally we get to see the Thor trailer that debuted at Comic-Con. Thor is one of my favorite Marvel superheros – don’t you screw this up Hollywood.

Synopsis: This epic adventure spans the Marvel Universe; from present day Earth to the realm of Asgard. At the center of the story is The Mighty Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions reignite an ancient war. Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans as punishment. Once here, Thor learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends the darkest forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

Scott Pilgrim vs the World Review

27 Jul

Scott Pilgrim vs The World tells the story of a 23 year old boy named…Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) who is in a rock-band trying to make it big, while at the same time Scott is trying to get over his ex-girlfriend. Scott then meets the girl of his dreams (literally) in Ramona Flowers and finds out it isn’t that easy to just start dating her. Instead, he must defeat Ramona’s seven evil ex’s first. In a series of Street Fighter-esque battles, Scott must fight each evil ex one by one to get closer to Ramona, all while learning more about himself along the way.

First off, you must know that the movie Scott Pilgrim vs the World is based on the Oni Press graphic novel Scott Pilgrim Volume 1: Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Life, written by Bryan Lee O’Malley. With that in mind, the director Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz) does a fantastic job of recreating the graphic novel. Scott is an uber nerd in the novel – and this is played up big time in the movie. Playing off of classic arcade games, throughout the film you will find video game sound effects and visuals. Scott Pilgrim blends video games, sit-coms, and comic books to form an entertaining movie that doesn’t take itself seriously. The story is full of short sentences, witty remarks, and fast paced action sequences. While this is a strong point of the film, it is also a downfall. This will make the film extremely polarizing with audiences – while most will love the quick A.D.D. dialog and fighting – others will find it not thought out and nothing more than briefly watching parts of shows while flipping through the channels. The abilities of director Wright shine here – being able to balance the story and the quick action make it hard to resist this film. To understand what I mean, you really just have to see it – check out some clips here.

Monday Music Madness: “2012 (feat. Nicki Minaj)” – Jay Sean & “Just the Way You Are” – Bruno Mars

26 Jul

2012 (feat. Nicki Minaj) – Jay Sean

I remember hearing “Down” and instantly liking it. The I remember hearing “Do You Remember”, and thinking to myself, “This song is decent, but he could do better.” Well apparently, Jay Sean ‘heard’ me. First of all, this song is extremely catchy. I was immediately bobbing my head when I first pressed play after finding this song. Secondly, he teamed up with Nicki Minaj (who has two other songs on this week’s Monday Music Madness) the hottest female rapper right now. So take those two together and assume that Jay Sean’s favorite movie is 2012, and you get a guaranteed hit. So check out your Doomsday Clock and listen “2012″.:

Like this song? Make sure to check out Jay Sean’s current album All or Nothing and be on the look out for his untitled fourth album dropping sometime this year.

The Double Rainbow Song

24 Jul

I seriously can not get enough of this song. I’m so sad I didn’t see this earlier. Although the guys and gal over at The Gregory Brothers have been auto-tuning so many different things, I think this is definitely my second favorite video that they’ve done. This song is just so freaking catchy. So have fun trying not to sing “Double Rainbow all the way, across the sky! Yeaaaah! So intense!”

Check out The Gregory Brothers’ YouTube channel for more hilarity and awesomeness and check out my 1# favorite video of theirs, Auto-Tune the News # 2, and find yourself on very thin ice.

New Trailer for TRON: Legacy

22 Jul

Well after searching google videos for the past hour or so, finally success. The brand new theatrical trailer for Tron: Legacy. After watching how amazing this is, just try and picture it in 3D (and real 3D shot with two cameras) Oh yeah - this is going to be amazing. And if you’re interested in the video game that bridges the gap between the two films, here is a kid playing it (very poorly) at Comic-Con today.

Plot: Sam Flynn, the tech-savvy 27-year-old son of Kevin Flynn, looks into his father’s disappearance and finds himself pulled into the same world of fierce programs and gladiatorial games where his father has been living for 25 years. Along with Kevin’s loyal confidant, father and son embark on a life-and-death journey across a visually-stunning cyber universe that has become far more advanced and exceedingly dangerous.

Dave Chappelle might be coming to DC

19 Jul

Everyone knows that Dave Chappelle is one of the funniest comedians to quit showbiz, so when an announcement comes out saying Dave Chappelle is coming back to DC, it sends people into panic mode. The Metro Comedy crew recently sent out this notice stating that Dave Chappelle is coming to perform at the Lincoln Theatre on September 3rd.  The eventbrite notification also states that additional information can be found at the Metro Comedy website – which apparently isn’t aware of this exciting news seeing as his name isn’t mentioned once on the site. Somewhere along the lines DC Metro Mix picked up on the story, added the price tag of $80, and kindly reminded it’s viewers to pick up your tickets now. Ok great, let me check ticketmaster – nope. What about stubhub - nothing. Coasttocoast? NO!? Ok, so Lincoln Theatre has to have tickets on sale, I mean it’s the venue it’s being advertised at AMIRIGHT!? Again, no information what-so-ever.

So what’s the deal? After coming up with nothing in terms of tickets, I finally got in touch with the people at Lincoln Theatre. The woman in the box office kindly informed me that this advertisment was issued way, way, way too far in advance, and that they (assuming Metro Comedy) still need to reserve the theatre for that date and to get in contact with and confirm with Dave Chappelle’s team. Unfortunetly, she couldn’t offer any sort of timeline for this. I don’t know about you but I basically took that as – someone in DC once said they would like to see Dave Chappelle perform at the Lincoln Theatre again.

This was yet another painful reminder that you can’t believe everything you read on the internet. I’m not saying that it’s not happening, or even that it won’t happen on that specific date, for those ticket prices - I’m just saying it’s not happening yet. On a side note, I just wanted to let everyone know that I have scheduled Muse, Jay-Z, and Paul McCartney to come play a show in my basement this weekend. There is no charge for admission but it will be BOYB.

UPDATE: After brought to the attention of DC Metromix by us, they have taken down their original article. And announced via tweet of their mistake.

UPDATE 2: After getting in contact with Metro Comedy, they have confirmed that they will be putting tickets on sale in 2 weeks. So mark your calendars and head over to http://metrocomedy.com/ to pick them up.

It’s The Internets! (07/19/10)

19 Jul

Well this sucks right now. I got a pinkish sunburn on my upper back – and it’s starting to itch. No matter how much aloe I am throwing on it…patience Greg, you can get through this, you’ve done this before, concentrate. Maybe these links can help me get through this.

Hope everyone has a great week, already almost August! As for me, the itching has gone down since I started this post, thank God. Go follow us on Twitter if you want even more hilarious, gut-bursting, knee-slapping, out of breath tweets!

Monday Music Madness: “Break My Bank (feat. Iyaz)” – New Boyz & “143 (feat. Ray J)” – Bobby Brackins

19 Jul

Break My Bank (feat. Iyaz) – New Boyz

While I can’t give the New Boyz any credit for their “amazing” rap skills, I can appreciate the fact that they make catchy songs. This one is no exception. “Break My Bank” is your typical “New Boyz” song. It’s got a beat that’ll get stuck in your head with a hook that’ll have the same effect. It also features Iyaz who has quickly become the new Akon by being featured in songs instead of releasing ones of his own. So check it out and do the reject to “Break My Bank”:

Like this song? Check out their sophomore album Too Cool To Care dropping some time this September.
