Everyone knows that Dave Chappelle is one of the funniest comedians to quit showbiz, so when an announcement comes out saying Dave Chappelle is coming back to DC, it sends people into panic mode. The Metro Comedy crew recently sent out this notice stating that Dave Chappelle is coming to perform at the Lincoln Theatre on September 3rd. The eventbrite notification also states that additional information can be found at the Metro Comedy website – which apparently isn’t aware of this exciting news seeing as his name isn’t mentioned once on the site. Somewhere along the lines DC Metro Mix picked up on the story, added the price tag of $80, and kindly reminded it’s viewers to pick up your tickets now. Ok great, let me check ticketmaster – nope. What about stubhub - nothing. Coasttocoast? NO!? Ok, so Lincoln Theatre has to have tickets on sale, I mean it’s the venue it’s being advertised at AMIRIGHT!? Again, no information what-so-ever.
So what’s the deal? After coming up with nothing in terms of tickets, I finally got in touch with the people at Lincoln Theatre. The woman in the box office kindly informed me that this advertisment was issued way, way, way too far in advance, and that they (assuming Metro Comedy) still need to reserve the theatre for that date and to get in contact with and confirm with Dave Chappelle’s team. Unfortunetly, she couldn’t offer any sort of timeline for this. I don’t know about you but I basically took that as – someone in DC once said they would like to see Dave Chappelle perform at the Lincoln Theatre again.
This was yet another painful reminder that you can’t believe everything you read on the internet. I’m not saying that it’s not happening, or even that it won’t happen on that specific date, for those ticket prices - I’m just saying it’s not happening yet. On a side note, I just wanted to let everyone know that I have scheduled Muse, Jay-Z, and Paul McCartney to come play a show in my basement this weekend. There is no charge for admission but it will be BOYB.
UPDATE: After brought to the attention of DC Metromix by us, they have taken down their original article. And announced via tweet of their mistake.
UPDATE 2: After getting in contact with Metro Comedy, they have confirmed that they will be putting tickets on sale in 2 weeks. So mark your calendars and head over to http://metrocomedy.com/ to pick them up.
