28 Oct

UPDATE: Thanks to Screenjunkies, here are some more pictures from Captain America: The First Avenger!!! ZOMGSOEXCITING!

Keeping in tradition of featuring Marvel news when it comes out, here are some new pics of none other than Chris Evans as the Nazi-fighting symbol of freedom, justice, and most importantly, ‘Merica, Captain America!!!

You hear that? That’s the sound of freedom. *F18′s fly by overhead* Man, when I first saw initial pictures from the set of Captain America, I was expecting such terrible things. But after seeing this picture, I couldn’t be more excited. LOOK AT THE BULLET MARKS ON HIS SHIELD! THAT’S NAZI BULLETS BOUNCING OFF OF ‘MERICA!!! Next summer is going to be huge. Captain America: The First Avenger comes out in theaters July 22, 2011.

Your Thursday Mixtape: Vol XII

28 Oct

When I found this song, it inspired me to make another mixtape, so everyone thank Lykke Li. In what seems like an eternity, she finally has some new music and “Get Some” is upbeat and catchy. Enjoy! Two new tracks can be downloaded for free from her site here.

Lykke Li – Get Some

Deerhunter is on tour with Spoon right now, and after hearing their new single, it’s easy to see why. They’ve gone through a lot of different band members and have changed their style since their formation in 2001, but this might be one of their best songs to date.

Deerhunter – Revival

Lupe Fiasco is back on the music scene (doing his own thing) and his new track “The Shows Goes On” has made me rejoin the Lupe bandwagon. His new CD Lasers should be out next March. (Thanks for the tip Becky W.)

Lupe Fiasco – The Show Goes On

Matt Costa is starting to make some noise in the music world. From having a song in “I Love You Man” to getting noticed on tours with bigger groups like Modest Mouse. The song has an upbeat feel to it, but the lyrics are a bit depressing. However this song could easily make it’s way into another movie.

Monday Music Madness: “Shake” – Jesse McCartney & “What’s My Name (feat. Drake)” – Rihanna

25 Oct

Shake – Jesse McCartney

Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve heard anything from this guy. Jesse McCartney, most famously known for his hit Leavin’, is back on the music scene with a catchy single that’s definitely going to be a hit on the radio. This heavily synthed, club inspired song has some “grown up” lyrics. Seems Jesse McCartney’s pretty dedicated to those shmexy R&B/Pop songs now. I’ll be honest with you, this song has grown on me and I actually like it a lot now. There! I said it! So check out “Shake”:

Daft Punk Surprises Crowd at Phoenix Show!

21 Oct

Can't wait to see them in Tron

At a Phoenix show at Madison Square Garden, the robot duo Daft Punk showed up and played a few tracks for the encore alongside their French friends. Pretty amazing. So jealous of the people who got to see this, really have to see Daft Punk live before I die.

Monday Music Madness: “Turn Around (5, 4, 3, 2, 1)” – Flo Rida & “We R Who We R” – Ke$ha

18 Oct

Turn Around (5,4,3,2,1) – Flo Rida

I’m pretty sure all Flo Rida does is make club bangers now – and that’s not a bad thing. Club Can’t Handle Me is still blowing up the charts, radio stations, bars, and clubs and it seems like his next song is going to do the same thing. “Turn Around (5, 4, 3, 2, 1)” samples one of the greatest 80′s songs ever, Day Bow Bow Oh Yeah by Yello, and it samples it well. In true Flo Rida fashion, this song is upbeat with a simple hook and fast paced lyrics about dancing, money, and the like. But what else do you expect out of this artist? So get ready to dance your pants off to “Turn Around (5, 4, 3, 2, 1)”:

Like this song? Be sure to be on the lookout for his new album, Only 1 Flo (Pt. 1) dropping November 30th.

NFL 2010: Week Six Predictions

17 Oct

Well, another interesting week in the NFL has come and gone. Somebody guess how many Greg got right last week #LAWLZ@Idontunderstandtwitter. I bet he wishes he hasn’t gone back and tallied up the scores. Also, we’re not including Genesis’s from last week because he’s a cheater.

Idiots.

Sunday, Oct. 17 1:00 PM:

Cleveland Browns AT Pittsburgh Steelers – Ben Roethlisberger is making his return to the field against a Browns team that sacked him eight times the last time he played them. But the real story here is Colt McCoy making his start against the hardest defense in the NFL. That’ll be a confidence booster! Eric Mangini will probably just ease McCoy into the game by running the wildcat and making Joshua Cribbs do everything on offense. Again.

Andrew’s pick – Pittsburgh Steelers. The Browns have to overcome terrible coaching and their own issues before can even begin to try to beat the Steelers.

Greg’s Pick – Pittsburgh Steelers. With Big Ben back and the Brown struggling to find some form of offense with Colt McCoy starting, I just can’t pick them.

Gen’s pick – Pittsburgh Steelers. LET IT BE KNOWN THAT I AM NOT A CHEAT! Anyway, it’s Big Ben Rapisthambuger’s first game back and I think he’ll come out harder than ever. He won’t take no for an answer. He’ll take advantage of his situation and try to make something out of nothing. Rapist.

Detroit Lions AT New York Giants - The Lions are coming off a dominating win over St. Louis, but it was the Lions first win and against the Rams so it’s not all that impressive. Shaun Hill is in for Matt Stafford still, and although Hill hasn’t played that poorly, he will certainly have a tough time against New York’s tought defensive front. Speaking of the Giant, they are also coming off two impressive wins over the Bears and the Texans.  The biggest question for the Giants remains which Eli Manning will show up to lead the Giants offense.

Andrew’s pick – New York Giants. Maybe if the Lions were at home this game would be more of a toss-up but on the road against the tough Giants defense will be really tough to overcome.

Greg’s pick – New York Giants. So are the Giants good again?

Gen’s pick – New York Giants. Forest Gump and the rest of the Giants should be able to handle the Lions.

Conan’s Most Explosive Promo Yet

I am getting pretty excited for Conan’s new show (which premieres on TBS on November 8th) – and his promos are getting better and better. Here’s his newest one:

This is airing at Regal Theaters before films.

Kanye West Made a Movie

13 Oct

So Kanye has made a movie (about 40 minutes) to his awesome track “Runaway” – - here is the trailer below. I only post this because a) it’s a really good song and b) It was all filmed in Prague. Here’s what Kanye said in defense of directing it himself:

“I know some of my images, my ideas, were so amateur, no director would want to do this for me. So I had to do it myself. I’d rather it be my vision and my dream and be sub par, than for it to be someone else’s vision and perfect.”

Monday Music Madness: “Speak Now” – Taylor Swift & “Start It Up” – Lloyd Banks

12 Oct

Speak Now – Taylor Swift

Man I feel like I haven’t done anything on this thing for a while (Whispers: because I haven’t shhh). Anyway, I’m back and let’s check out this week’s first artist. The only reason why I’m featuring Taylor Swift in this week’s Music Monday, is because I had a dream with her in it. No, I wasn’t listening to her before I went to bed nor was I even thinking of her. But, somehow, she incepted herself into my mind brain. Here’s the dream, I was outside of a huge old-looking house that reminded me of something from New Orleans. And there was Taylor up on the second floor on the porch, most likely of her daddy’s house. I was there, on the lawn, a guitar in hand. I was singing something to her and she was loving it. She was dressed in white like an angel. For a moment, she was my angel….MY….ANGEL!!! *Ahem*…Then I woke up and Googled her and found out that she has a new song out that talks about her ruining a wedding in a cute way. Enjoy!:

Like that song? Be sure to check out her new album, Speak Now, dropping October 25th.

NFL 2010: Week Five Predictions

8 Oct

Alright, so you probably noticed that we didn’t write one of these last week. Yeah, I’m sorry. Between traveling and not having the internet, it was a little difficult for me to get this in order. I wrote up my picks for the previous week on my phone and only half of them saved (couldn’t even find them in the auto-saved drafts). Preeeeeettttyyy frustrating. Due to the issues, I’m not going to continue to keep a cumulative score, plus I’m too lazy to add them all up each week, especially if I get distracted and lose count. Just being honest. Anyway, enough rambling, on to what you really came for. *(Greg’s note – I counted them up: Greg is at 26-22, Genesis at 26-22, and Andrew is at 17-15, seeing as only 2 of his picks saved from the last post)* Want to see who’s playing on TV in  your area? Check out the helpful map!

Sunday, Oct. 10 1:00 PM:

New York Giants AT Houston Texans - The Texans defense will get a boost Brian Cushing back, if he could ever stop working out! Geez! The Giants are coming off a game where they knocked out two of the Bears quarterbacks, in the process of racking up a slew of sacks. The Giants got back to running the ball and playing strong defense, the qualities that helped them beat the offensive powerhoue Patriots in the Superbowl just a few years ago (REMEMBER GREG!?).

Andrew’s pick – Houston Texans. I say this begrudgingly because Brian Cushing looks like a douche, but I still think the Giants are still struggling in some areas.

Greg’s Pick – Houston Texans. I really hate you Andrew.

Gen’s pick – New York Giants. You know, the Texans looked  very impressive after playing the Colts. But last week, their win against the Raiders wasn’t that decisive. So what more against a Super Bowl team. I just don’t think they can do it. NY wins. **Doing these picks in an airport on my phone, so please excuse any typos**

St. Louis Rams AT Detroit Lions – Just a year ago, this would have been the worst game of the year. Now, it could arguably be one of the most interesting. If these two teams are going to be the two of the top teams of tomorrow, it will be interesting to see who wins this one.  Unfortunately, for those arguing interesting, the Lions QB Matthew Stafford is still out with a shoulder injury, leaving inconsistent Shaun Hill to direct this rebounding team. The Rams won their last two games with the help of their top ten defense and look to establish a winning record for the first time in god knows how long.

Andrew’s pick – St. Louis Rams. Shaun Hill did about well as could be expected against the Packers. I mean they did almost win, but if people are going to stop talking about the Redskins losing to the Rams, I need them to keep winning. FOR EXAMPLE - WIN THE SUPERBOWL RAMS!!! But seriously, wouldn’t it be funny if the next decade the Rams and the Lions are like the Patriots and Colts of this past one?

Greg’s Pick – St. Louis Rams – Remember how the Rams beat the Redskins? That was pretty awesome. Bradford is becoming a great quarterback in leading this offense.

Gen’s pick – St. Louis Rams. Although both teams seem awwwful, the Rams  just seem like a stronger team.

The rest of the picks after the jump!
